ABSTRACT: Domestic cattle breeds are classified in two subspecies: Bos taurus taurus, which have an european origin and Bos taurus indicus, the zebuines, originated in India. The main phenotypic difference between them is the presence of the hump, observed in the zebuines and absent in taurines. In addition, the sexual Y chromosome has been considered as a marker for these subspecies. Animals that have a submetacentric or metacêntrico Y chromosome are considered as Bos taurus taurus and those with acrocentric Y chromosome are typically zebuine animals (Bos taurus indicus). ABSTRACT: The diet is one of the main costs animal production in feedlots. In addition, diet composition is one of the main determinants of the animal's performance. Therefore, adequate diet formulation is crucial for the success of the feedlot. This publication describes the fundamentals of diet formulation through the criteria of least cost of dry matter and teaches how to implement it in a electronic spreadsheet for diet formulation. The aim is to allow spreadsheet users to easily evaluate and formulate diets for bovines.

ABSTRACT: The success of the assisted reproductive techniques (ART) in both humans and domestic animals depends of the semen quality. Since there is no test that alone can predict sperm fertility, as more sperm parameters are analyzed during evaluation, more acurated will the result. The evaluation of the DNA integrity during the exam of bovine fresh and frozen sperm is of fundamental importance to avoid embryonic losses. Planning forage needs in beef cattle enterprises is necessary for efficient utilization of genetic and environmental resources in pastoral systems and to generate economic benefits in an environmentally sound way. Production risk evaluation is essential in feed planning for cow-calf operations in pastoral systems.
